  Malibu Hamilton 1946 - 2024

Malibu+HamiltonIt is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Malibu Hamilton. Malibu was a gentle and passionate man.  His ability to bring people together and make them laugh was wonderful.

He lived in Raglan and there he rode the surf and ocean waves.  These waves took him to being active in the environmental protection on coastal area that include black sand mining and surf protection breaks.  He was a founding member of Kaiwhenua Organics a wonderful organisation that protects the environment and teaches children the wonders of the waterways and soil.

His ability to manoeuvre through the legislative minefield of genetic engineering issues was enlightening.

He was a submitter to the Waikato District Council protecting the fresh water and raised awareness of the sewerage problem and pollution of water ways.

Malibu had a bachelor’s degree in Iwi and environmental management and was the Tangata Whenua environmental resource management practitioner for Te Kotuku Whenua and Ngāti Wairere hapu.  He was deeply involved with the practices and processes of resource consent and the central government Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA). He had an integral role as an appointed iwi representative member of Te Kotuku Whenua the Ngāti Wairere Environmental Agency monitoring committee that monitored the AgResearch GE Animals.

He left Raglan to be with his family in Thames where he continued to keep a close eye on the environment and GE related issues.  We will miss him and will keep his passion and memory in our hearts.  Arohanui Malibu. Keep an eye on Aotearoa wherever you go,

Arohanui ki te e hoa, Malibu. He mihi aroha ki a koutou to whānau
